UD Coaches Profile : Meet Matt

Matt originally joined the Dragons in the Summer of 2018, before leaving to embark on his FA Level 2 qualifications - Matt then returned to UDFC towards the end of 2020 bringing with him experience gained from a variety of different environments and roles within the game. He is now working through his UEFA B qualification.

Alongside UDFC, Matt coaches the U9s – U10s player development centre for Chelsea FC Foundation, with the aim of bringing young talent through into the Chelsea Academy. He also helped set up and leads the U9s – U11s girls development centre at Chelsea Foundation.

Matt developed a real enthusiasm for the women’s game having secured a role as Head Coach of the Development Squad at London City Lionesses, a professional women’s team that plays in the FA Women’s Championship League, coaching 16 – 21 year-olds looking to break into the first team.

Building on the knowledge gained from his Sport Business Management degree, during the pandemic Matt embarked on a Master’s Degree at St Mary’s University, studying Performance Football Coaching, achieving a Distinction.

Matt continually looks to develop his coaching skills to include contemporary methods, which challenge the players on a both a physical but also psychological level to improve their decision-making skills and understanding of the game.
